Elogen selected by RoyalStav and Veolia for a renewable hydrogen project in Slovakia

Paris, 28 October 2025 – Elogen, a GTT Group company, announces that its proprietary membrane electrolyser technology has been selected by RoyalStav, a Slovak company specialised in the engineering and construction of energy projects, as part of a renewable hydrogen project led by Veolia Energia Slovensko, a.s., a subsidiary of the Veolia group in Slovakia.

Elogen will design and manufacture the 1 MW Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyser, scheduled for on-site installation in 2026.

The project, located near the town of Žiar nad Hronom, involves injecting hydrogen produced by electrolysis into an existing combined heat and power (CHP) plant to replace part of the natural gas used in the gas turbine. This integration will help reduce the plant’s carbon footprint. Any surplus green hydrogen produced will also be made available for transport via a hydrogen refuelling station.

Eric Minaux, Managing Director of Elogen, declared: We are proud that our PEM electrolyser technology has been chosen for this initiative in Slovakia. This project is a concrete example of Elogen’s contribution to industrial decarbonisation, by integrating green hydrogen into a CHP plant. We thank RoyalStav and Veolia for their trust and look forward to deploying our solution on site in 2026. ”

Peter Dobrý, Managing Director of Veolia Energia Slovensko, a.s, said:Veolia Energia Slovensko is building a hydrogen production facility using water electrolysis powered by renewable energy sources, primarily photovoltaic. The electrolyser will produce green hydrogen for injection into the natural gas network, increasing the share of renewable energy sources in the distribution system. The project provides grid stabilisation services by using excess electricity for hydrogen production and synergises with a photovoltaic plant to ensure green hydrogen production. This initiative positions Veolia as a leader in hydrogen production while supporting EU taxonomy requirements and decarbonisation goals. The project is also in line with our strategic Green Up programme, representing our commitment to modernising our operations, innovating the approach to the use of sustainable energy and protecting the environment.

Filip Vavrinčík, CEO of RoyalStav, said: “This project reflects our commitment to supporting the energy transition in Slovakia by implementing innovative and practical solutions. We chose Elogen’s PEM electrolyser technology for its reliability and performance, and we are delighted to be working with Veolia and Elogen to make green hydrogen an industrial reality.”
